2011-2012 Priorities
- Actively support and monitor Capital Projects Sales Tax projects.
- Support the consolidation process of Sumter's public school systems from an economic development standpoint for the betterment of the community.
- Create a Symposium involving the leadership of Sumter City and County Government to address our community image as perceived by non-residents.
Sumter Dollars - Keeping Shopping Dollars Local
The Chamber has developed a shop local gift certificate program called Sumter Dollars. This is a revolutionary gift certificate program that allows gift certificates to be purchased at the Chamber and used at over 450 Chamber member locations. Each accepting Chamber Member then deposits the Sumter Dollars like a regular bank check and receives full face value. This great opportunity helps keep shopping dollars in Sumter and educate the public on the types of goods and services available in Sumter. A detailed list of where they can be redeemed is included with each Sumter Dollar gift certificate sold, which are redeemable from one year from date of issue. Almost $100,000 worth of Sumter Dollars were sold in 2009.
Member-to-Member Program
This program allows members to offer discounts to each other. These discounts are a minimum of 10% off and are for a wide range of services. These opportunities connect members to each other while offering mutually beneficial cost savings. Download a full list of discounts.
Business After Hours
A once-a-month networking gathering hosted by different business members to showcase their businesses while giving the opportunity to network with Chamber members. There is no additional charge for this event and anyone affiliated with the business member is invited to attend.
Chamber Retreat
Chamber members can attend an out-of-town weekend retreat to network, hear keynote speakers and formulate the next year's Program of Work. Chamber Retreat has an attendance of almost 200 and it is typically held in a resort area at a 4-to 5-star hotel.
Rub O' The Green Golf Tournament
A quality golf outing supported by the Chamber's membership and designed to bring state leaders, industrial prospects, Shaw Air Force Base personnel, and local leaders together with the membership in a social setting to promote the Sumter community.
Military Appreciation Picnic
This event is specifically to honor our service men and women at Shaw AFB. Hamburgers and hotdogs are provided for over 1,800 military service men and women. Opportunities for sponsorships and booths are available to Chamber members to showcase their products and services. Everyone has the opportunity to express their appreciation to our airmen and build relationships between the two communities.
Legislative Day
This is an opportunity for us to showcase the Sumter community and all it has to offer to the South Carolina Legislature. Though we generally don't go with a specific agenda, Legislative Day is a branding event for our community so that when we do bring an item before our Legislature; its members are more familiar with our community and our needs.
