Committees

Ambassadors Team - Provide opportunities for networking and member-to-member marketing through New Member Orientations, Ribbon Cuttings, Business After Hours and other various events.

Citizens & Business for the City of Sumter -  Supports the referendum which will allow on-premise sales of alcohol in restaurants in the City of Sumter if passed by voters November 4, 2014.

Education Committee -   The education committee supports activities designed to improve the environment for a quality education in Sumter County. The primary focus is on activities that help create a skilled and motivated workforce.  Specific activities include:

Governmental Affairs - To develop policy and initiatives for the betterment of the Sumter community. This committee is non-partisan and does not support parties or candidates.

Military Affairs - To work with the Sumter Base Defense Committee as advocates for military needs in order to remove obstacles to ensure that Shaw Air Force Base can fulfill its mission; to foster relationships between the Sumter community and Shaw Air Force Base by providing an interface between the civilian and military communities.

Minority Business Outreach Committee - Initiate a systematic approach to recruit minority businesses into the Chamber andmonitor retention of minority and women owned businesses that currently invest in the Chamber. Conduct a minority business outreach event. Meetings at the Chamber of Commerce, times to be determined.

Penny For Progress Committee -  Supports the referendum which will extend the Capital Penny Sales Tax when it sunsets in 2016.

Public Relations Committee -  To develop a systematic means of communicating the Chamber story through all areas of the media, create a public image committee to develop a strategy to improve positive image and community pride, continue to redevelop the Chamber’s Web Site, update and modernize signage at the Chamber building and prepare and publish at least two news articles each month communicating the success and work of the Chamber of Commerce. Meetings at the Chamber of Commerce, times to be determined

Retreat Planning Committee - Plan and implement the Chamber Retreat in preparation for the formulation of the Program of Work. Meeting dates vary.

Small Business Advisory CommitteeThe Chamber’s small business programs are designed to provide assistance, information and networking opportunities for small and home-based businesses of Sumter’s economy.

Sumter Industrial Association - Local manufacturing executives to address issues of concern, and promote and improve the business environment. Meets every other month, except June-August. Location varies.(Membership shall be limited to firms that are classified under the SIC structure in Divisions A, B, C, D & F and additional fee required).
